2010/01 - J&J Carter create 'i-conic' stand for 2014 Commonwealth Games
One of the UK's leading manufacturers of tensile fabric structures, J&J Carter, has created an iconic cover for the North Stand at the recently opened Scotstoun Stadium in Glasgow.
The stand is part of a recent £18 million pound refurbishment to create a state-of-the-art 2014 Commonwealth Games venue, officially opened by Princess Anne last week.
"The stand had to be both visually striking to suit the calibre of event such as the Commonwealth Games, and be of high performance, consistent with a state-of-the-art sporting facility. We designed, manufactured and installed a multi-bay conic style stadium structure that enhances the ground aesthetically and meets all performance requirements, including the efficient management of rainwater", commented a spokesperson from J&J Carter.
Prior to the Games in 2014 the facility will be used as the training base for the Glasgow Warriors rugby team, various sporting events and athlete training, and a training centre for 2012 Olympics competitors. 2009/09 - Meeting Environmental Objectives.
U.K's leading marquee and cover manufacturer, J & J Carter, have taken on board the environmental initiative to offer recycling of PVC tent covers for the marquee rental industry. Currently, some covers are reused as general tarpaulins, however some are sadly ending up in landfill. Whilst landfill is still relatively affordable; it is not an environmental solution. J & J Carter have teamed up with a specialist recycling company, who in partnership, can provide the environmental answer to the renters' issues.
Redundant covers are simply sent to J & J Carter's depot in Basingstoke, where they have any metallic fittings removed, baled, and sent to the recycling centre. At the recycling centre the bales are ground down to pellet form. These pellets are typically mixed with virgin grade PVC in the manufacture of other industrial products. This way the PVC tent panel gets a second life without impacting the environment.
