Aberglasney House and Gardens is a medieval house and gardens set in the Tywi valley in the parish of Llangathen, Carmarthenshire, West Wales. It is owned and run by the Aberglasney Restoration Trust, a registered charity.
Aberglasney was made famous by the BBC television series A Garden Lost in Time, which followed the site’s restoration. Today, it remains one of Wales’ finest gardens, and at its heart lies a fully restored Elizabethan Cloister Garden that is the only surviving example of its kind in the UK today.
Provide unobtrusive shelter in two locations without compromising historic character or views. Any intervention needed to integrate with the medieval house and formal gardens, manage Welsh weather and support high visitor use around the tearoom terrace overlooking the Pool Garden.
Rear archway canopy
To protect the space outside the triple archway doors at the rear of the house, we installed a canopy in sand shade PVC. The colour and profile keep a low visual impact while providing dependable cover in keeping with the lovingly restored setting.
Tearoom terrace structure
For the larger requirement, we specified our Hampshire Structures Series 90 with a 6 m span and a conic roof system. This pagoda marquee shelters the outdoor terrace that surrounds the popular tearooms overlooking the Pool Garden, supporting thousands of visitors who enjoy freshly prepared cakes, pastries and afternoon tea.
