Victoria Square | Belfast
The Dome at Victoria Square shopping centre in Belfast features a free viewing platform giving spectacular panoramic view of Belfast and the surrounding areas. As Belfast's premier shopping and leisure destination, Victoria Square includes over 70 shops, restaurants, cafes, and an Odeon cinema.
J & J Carter were contracted to design and manufacture the internal tensile fabric sun screens. This ingenious shade sail design rotates in line with the changing position of the sun throughout the day. This ensures that any sunlight penetrating the glass dome is diffused, while also minimising any obstruction of the panoramic city view.
The screens are individually connected to the sails booms with a Keder track system and catenary tensioned vertically to the highest point within the dome.
The sails were made using a Class 0 fire rated PVC Coated Glass Fibre and are designed to control solar gain while also adding to the aesthetics of the space.
